Early Treatment

At Bowers Orthodontic Specialists, we strive to be the orthodontist of choice for those in Bloomington, IL and the surrounding communities. We’re proud to offer a comprehensive list of orthodontic treatments, including braces and Invisalign. Our highly trained doctors are equipped to take care of patients of all ages, including any young children in the family. If you have a child that’s yet to see an orthodontist, we encourage you to come in to see us for a first visit sometime.

When Is the Best Time to Begin Orthodontics?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child receive his or her first orthodontic examination at the age of seven. The reason for this is because the adult molars erupt and establish the back bite at around this age. This is the earliest stage that allows us to see all of a child’s potential bite problems. It’s always best to take care of any problems as early as possible and before they develop into something even worse.

It’s also important to note that even if orthodontic treatment is needed, an early evaluation doesn’t always mean early treatment. In many circumstances, if we decide that orthodontic work is required, we’ll simply wait and monitor your child’s growth patterns until we determine when the best time for treatment is. This will allow us the opportunity to achieve the best results possible.
